As someone who’s been a plumber in the East Bay for years, I can safely say I know the ins and outs of the employee/employer relationship.
One basic principle I’ve learned is that employees who feel appreciated and fairly compensated perform WAY better on the job, are more likely to stick around for the long term, and are going to have better lives all around.
I also saw the other side of things: employees who were burnt out, disheartened, and all around dissatisfied. In fact, I WAS one of those employees.
I worked for several different plumbing and rooter companies in the East Bay before I found one that was the right fit, and then THAT one got sold to a new owner. I had been under the impression I was going to take over the business and was disappointed I missed out on the opportunity to be in the driver’s seat.
So, I decided to go off on my own and found Avalon Rooter. I wanted to start a plumbing and sewer company with a better company culture, one that put employees and homeowners above profits and sales.

One thing I liked about the best company I worked for was the steady, Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5 pm schedule. It enabled me to spend more time with my family, and when it came time for business, I was one hundred percent recharged and ready to go.
So I decided to do the same thing for my employees. They are not required to work nights or weekends, so they can have time with their families.
The other major difference between how we do things at Avalon and how SO many other contractors operate is the fact we don’t pay based on commission.
Our technicians aren’t sales associates. They’re professionals, and I’d rather pay them to focus on providing YOU with the highest-caliber service than have them scrambling to “sell, sell, sell!”

It’s a waste of your time and money to sit through a sales pitch when what you really need is an honest professional to diagnose your plumbing issues and provide a solution.
A plumber or sewer technician paid on commission is going to try to sell you something. You didn’t call a plumber because you wanted to shop. You called because you wanted your PROBLEM SOLVED.
Our technicians are NOT trained to sell, and they’re not incentivized to, either. When we come out to your home, our goal is to identify what you need and figure out how we can provide it for you in the most precise, effective way possible. We want to fix your plumbing and rooter problems so well that you NEVER have to call us again.
The sad truth is, a lot of other companies ONLY want to make money, whether it’s off the backs of their employees or the homeowners they take advantage of. That’s NOT how I wanted to do things. Avalon Rooter is founded on principles of integrity, honesty, and doing our absolute best.
You need to be able to rely on your septic system, plumbing, and sewers day in and day out. When ANY of them fail, it’s a big deal.
We understand that, which is why we use the best materials and take the time to do things correctly the first time. We make sure EVERYTHING is properly fitted, sealed, and installed.
